Another day on the Banhofstrasse...

Today was a fantastic weather for a fall day in Zurich. Matt and I had some lunch in the shopping district, then off to the central train station to book our tickets for Italy next weekend. The main train station has a grand central feel to it. The spacious overhang once housed the platforms for the trains, but due to growth it's tracks have been recontructed and the overhang now serves as an open space where markets, concerts, and exhibitions of all kinds can take place. Today we happened to catch part of a marketing push for Volvo cars and Toblerone, a famous Swiss chocolate brand. They had a drawing to win a car and a rock wall with competitions on the fastest scaling times. (Not to mention, free chocolate samples!) It's interesting to see the many uses for this space. I look forward to the end of November when the Christmas market is set up for an entire month.
After purchasing our tickets we moved on to a couple of grocery stores to pick up some foods for dinner, tomorrow's meals, and lunch for Matt on Monday. The grocery stores are closed along with all the other shopping on Sundays, so it is necessary to think ahead about your meals on the weekends. We weren't the only ones out enjoying the fall weather, and perhaps doing a little Saturday afternoon shopping. The Banhofstrasse was packed with people, and it didn't take long for the hourdes of people to wear on us. Especially since Europeans tend to have a more aggressive style of walking, I often feel like I'm a pinball getting bounced around.
We're hanging out now, just biding our time until the Hawkeyes kick off. GO HAWKS!
