Einstein Tour

Today I took a tour with Bill Hoovey - an international school history teacher who does Zurich walks in his free time. (Check out his website here!) Bill possesses a wealth of information about the area, and it was a joy to spend a few hours walking the town with him and getting some bits of his knowledge.

The tour was in commemeration of Mileva Einstein's birthday, which was 2 days ago. The research that Bill has done and shares indicates that she played a key role in helping Einstein develop some of his philosophies. While her role in the physics discoveries are a controversial subject for some, it's clear that she should be admired all the same for her ability to weather all the pecularities and behavior of Einstein. (I say this based upon the quotes Bill pulled from letters of correspondence between the two during their courtship through the disolution of their marriage in 1919.)

We ended the tour in the University area of town. Which Bill mentioned had a spectacular library, somewhat famous for it's artictecture. We dropped in for a quick look, and it is stunning, so I had to include some photos of that as well.

I did forget to update you on the Opera and musical, "We Will Rock You." The Opera was strange, a sort of New Age take of an old French story. Missed the mark on the beautiful costumes and set design completely. The musical however, was FANTASTIC! Though the story was in German, I was able to understand some of what was going on. (High German, so much crisper then the Swiss German.) The songs performed in English, were amazing. The old Queen songs we all know and love. They got the crowd rocking, and the finale of Bohemian Rhapsody was a stunner. Anyone in the Zurich area should definitely check this show out.
