An Afternoon in Luzern

Yesterday my cousin Maria arrived. The two of us went to Luzern to check out some of the Swiss Fasnacht (Carneval) celebrations that were taking place. The city was overrun with people dressed in all imaginable costumes. There was a parade with some 36 floats in effect, and we got some snaps of some of our favorites. It appeared the floats were operated by local businesses and were taking part in some sort of judging. It was clear they had put alot of time into each one, some with elaborate mechanical features and bumping sound systems.
Tomorrow, we are off to see the Alps!

These fish heads are the masks for one of the many roving bands playing around town.

I'm not sure what the theme was for this hell-raising team, but the kid in the mechanical cock pit (look closely) probably had the best seat for the parade. (They were still in the staging area when we saw them.)
