May 1

Pictures from 20 Minuten Newspaper:

One of the KPMG offices in Zürich after the riots.

May 1st in canton Zürich is a public holiday for Labor Day. Many from the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland come out to parade and eventually riot. Matt did go into the office, but the workers there had been informed to shut the window shutters and take extra precaution. Since the rioters are anti-globalization and capitalism, big business is often a target, and that includes KPMG. (The office in the picture above is not where Matt works.)
According to the paper, 103 people were arrested and damages were estimated at time of publication at CHF 300,000 or roughly $247,000 USD. Only about 1/5 of those arrested were from Zürich city itself.

The fact that only 20% of those arrested were from Zurich does not necessarily mean that only 20% of the violent demonstrators were.
I was surprised by the number and instantly wondered if the police were selective in who they arrested. (I don't know anything in particular, just wild conspiracy theories on my part.)
