The third city, and favorite on our big trip with my parent's, was to Vienna. We started out this city by visiting Zentralfriedhof or central cemetary of Vienna. This cemetary was huge! It had many elaborate tombstones and also some forgotten ones, mainly in the Jewish section. Most notably however, were the gravesites to Beethoven, Brahams, Strauss, and Schubert.
The next morning we started off the day watching the exercises of the horses at the Spanish Riding School. The school dates back to 1572, teaching the white Lipizzaner stallions how to prance in very specific order to classical music. The morning exercises was a nice taste for us. Anymore dancing horses and I think Matt might have had a breakdown.
The next stop, and well worth the trip, was the Sisi Museum. Empress Elizabeth was an interesting character and her life was well documented in this audio tour of the Royal Quarters. Also a highlight of the afternoon was the Imperial Crypt in the Capucine Church. This is the resting place of the Dynasty Family of the Habsburgs, but only their guts remained there in urns. Two other churches in the city also have remains. (One has the hearts and the other has the bodies.)
We topped off the day with a stop into the Mozart Museum. They provide an audio tour with the price of admission. This tour was just okay and there isn't much to see inside the house. But there were a few interesting stories and it was neat to see how he may have lived for 3 years in this apartment with his family.
All in all, Vienna is a very tourist friendly, walkable city, and enough to see to keep you busy for days! We all wished we had more time there.
