Matt & Jill's Zurich Adventures: Paris

Day Three in Paris started with a trip to the Palace of Versailles, just about a half hour outside city center. We spent a quick hour walking through the the Royal Residence and the famous Hall of Mirrors where the Treaty of Versailles was signed. We finished our tour just as the fountains were turning on in the gardens for an hour long show accompanied by classical music. We walked the grounds seeing as much as we could before turning back for Paris.
We met Nickie and Troy back at their apartment. They took the morning to grocery shop for wine and cheese and all the things that make up a good picnic. We were grateful they did all the packing while Matt and I took a quick nap, then off to the Champs de Mars. The walk took a little longer then expected as we had our work cut out for us negotiating the crowds and closed roads. But we made it to the base of the Eiffel Tower with enough time to make our pick of the grassy spots to set up camp. We cracked open the wine right away and before long a game of Yahtzee broke out. The stage set up on the other end of the Champs de Mars played music from a DJ, that turned into a 30 to 40 minute concert by Nelly Furtado, then finished with some other musician (whose identity I'm still not quite sure of). As the night wore on we were joined by others from Troy's job. Then about halfway through our second to last wine bottle the fireworks began! They were accompanied by music and were spectacular. The whole experience was quite surreal. Nickie even thought to bring along champagne and plastic champagne glasses to boot. Way to go Nickie! It was a special night that neither Matt or I will soon forget.
