A Busy Weekend with the Maday's
Last Friday morning my friend Emily from Minneapolis/St Paul arrived with her parents. We spent the better part of Friday touring the Old Town of Zürich. Saturday morning we rented a car and drove to see the monastery at Einsiedeln, Rhein Falls, then onto Interlaken for an overnight. We woke first thing on Sunday to the most beautiful clear skies, a perfect day to pack onto the lifts up Schilthorn with the local skiiers trying to get in one last day of runs. We also went to the Emmental region to watch a demonstration on how they made cheese the old fashion way and got a look at some of the equipment they use now in modern production. Monday morning we met some of my expat friends about 40 minutes outside of town in Buchs, home of the Chocolat Frey Factory. We got a tour of their facilities and lots of samples! By the time we made it back into Zürich the festivities for the Spring Festival, Sechseläuten, were gearing up. Matt had been working hard cleaning the apartment as he invited his co-workers over to watch from our windows. (The parade route goes right down our street.) It was a good thing we were inside too, the weather was off and on pouring rain. We were even cold in our apartment from just having the windows open!
This morning I'm attempting to get myself back together. Emily, her parents Tom and Jean, and I are departing for Amsterdam in a few hours. Better get packing!
