The Swiss Love Affair with Models

No....not those models....these models.....

Last Friday in the main train station was a display for an architecture competition of model making. The planning stage (especially for major projects) is of the utmost importance to Swiss people. Matt has seen this at work. From his experience, Americans tend to jump into the project and work through the problems as they arise, whereas his Swiss colleagues prefer to thoroughly prepare for every scenario before beginning.
We have received numerous flyers in the mail from the city with 3D images of what this or that project will look like once complete. While the city was in the midst of the major renovations along the Limmat River, they went so far as opening up a trailer in a nearby square which displayed the models so curious locals could review the plans.
City planning is not the only focus for model building. Building model train sets are a huge industry here. (Funny blog post about model trains, click here.) It's gone so far in the model train business that there's now a market for some racy figurines!
Just one of those quirky cultural things I guess.
